E-on Software Ships Vue 2014 Professional Solutions

New features of Vue 2014

Release 2014 focuses on strengthening the core features of Vue - light, atmospheres and EcoSystems. Thanks to dedicated exchange filters, it also pushes integration into existing pipelines.

"With physically accurate sunlight and photometric lighting, FBX import, Multi-layer 32-bit OpenEXR 2.0 support, World Point Position passes, .FBX and .CHAN camera exchange as well as many workflow and interface improvements, Vue is more than ever the go-to solution for digital nature environments", said Nicholas Phelps, president of e-on software.

Vue 2014 + Nuke Workflow Tutorial.

Here is a shortlist of some of the important new features included in Vue 2014:

  • Workflow and Production improvements*: Vue xStream 2014 will import FBX scenes with textured geometries and cameras in both ASCII or binary FBX formats. Camera motion can be imported and exported as .FBX as well as Nuke .CHAN files. Vue xStream 2014 outputs all render layers in a single Multi-layer 32Bit OpenEXR 2.0 file; all passes are available in either 32-bit (floating point or unsigned integer) or 16 bit (half format).
  • World Point Position (or XYZ) Pass: Vue 2014 adds a WPP pass to the extensive list of rendering components, masks and information passes that can be generated for added compositing flexibility.
  • Physically Accurate Sunlight Model and Photometric Lights: The new scientifically accurate photometric sunlight model uses a real-world, physical simulation of sun and atmospheric light intensities. Users can assign physically accurate values to all light properties, such as color temperature, light intensity (Lumens or Candelas) and IES Profiles.
  • Tone Mapping: Vue 2014 lets users select different tone mapping filters to control how raw HDR colors are transformed into the final picture. These filters typically simulate the response of the human eye or chemical photographic film.
  • Natural Grain: This new mode produces natural color variations particularly well suited for terrains, ground, or any natural element. Ideal for quick results, the Natural Grain option provides high level access to settings such as contrast, balance and roughness, directly in the Material Editor.
  • EcoSystem improvements: EcoSystem Clumping replicates the natural phenomenon whereby plants tend to grow in close patches rather than evenly distributed. Vue 2014 features highly optimized algorithms to accelerate the rendering of EcoSystems containing many small items, such as gravel or grass blades.
  • Improved Plant Factory compatibility: Health, Seasonality or any other published plant parameter can be animated directly inside the Vue timeline. When using Plant Factory plants in EcoSystems, a new Quality setting is available in the Population list to define the amount of detail of the plant instances, thus saving memory and reducing render times.
  • Interface improvements: The Vue 2014 Function Editor was redesigned for improved performance on modern computer displays. A new option is available that protects the render camera from any unwanted modifications and automatically switches to perspective view whenever the viewport is modified. Vue 2014 can position the sun exactly as it would be in real-life, based on time of day, date and location on Earth.
  • Many other improvements such as Foldable EcoPainter, highly optimized flat Area Lights, naming in Render Stack, improved material manipulation, integration into the latest releases of Autodesk 2014 products, Cinema4D R15** and LightWave 11.6, and more...

* These features are available in Vue xStream 2014 only.

** At time of release, Windows only. Compatibility with Mac C4D R15 coming soon.

Carbon Scatter 2: Edit and Populate Millions of Plants Per Second

THE MOST POWERFUL POPULATION PLUGIN FOR 3DS MAX, MAYA AND CINEMA 4D

December 17, 2012. Beaverton, Oregon: e-on software, the leader in Digital Nature solutions, today announced the immediate availability of Carbon Scatter 2, the company's advanced instancing plugin for 3ds Max, Maya and Cinema 4D.

Derived from e-on software's acclaimed EcoSystem technology, Carbon Scatter 2 is the easiest and most straightforward solution for creating complex and detailed populations using the native instancing technologies of the host application.

On top of new super-fast population algorithms (create over 1 million instances per second!), Carbon Scatter 2 adds the ability to populate objects all around at 360°, allows stacking of instances, and makes fantastic use of the native displaying technologies of your application (point-cloud rendering, Nitrous interactive rendering, etc). There are many other novelties in this release, including the ability to use curves to define population areas, which, added to Carbon Scatter's interactive painting tools and powerful fractal rules, gives you unprecedented control over your instancing.

By adding the optional Carbon Botanica module, users can even edit and create their own plant species directly, for even greater variability and control (see below).

Key features of Carbon Scatter 2

Carbon Scatter 2 integrates e-on’s patented EcoSystem™ algorithms directly inside the end user’s favorite 3D application, allowing the population of native scenes with millions of instances and rendering them with the user’s renderer of choice.

Key benefits of Carbon Scatter 2 include:

  • Over 100 3D plant species (with variations!) and 130+ billboard trees included
  • Populate millions of instances per second!
  • Interactive population – change a setting and Carbon Scatter repopulates in a blink
  • Populate at 360° around objects
  • Use the powerful EcoPainter brush to paint-in instances directly with your mouse
  • Edit or create your own plant species with the optional Carbon Botanica module
  • Render billions of polygons easily thanks to native instancing
  • Works with all your shaders
  • Compatible with native previewing options (Nitrous, point-cloud, etc)
  • Advanced scattering rules with procedural graph control
  • Multi-layer scattering with internal affinity/repulsion
  • Scattering inside/along curves
  • Stacked instances (e.g. to create piles of rubble)
  • Use animated populations with full phasing control
  • Enormous library of additional plant species available from cornucopia3d.com*

*Requires Carbon Botanica

Vegetation Customization with Carbon Botanica

Based on e-on software’s renowned procedural plant technology, the optional Carbon Botanica Plant Editor lets the user easily customize any of the plants included with Carbon Scatter and allows creation of his own, unique plant species.

The user can adjust the settings for the entire plant, or work on individual subsets of the plant (trunk, branches leaves...). Textures for any subset can be edited or replaced, so custom pictures and scans can be used to create new realistic leaves and trunks.

Newly created plants can be saved as specimens for later use. Since each plant is based on the SolidGrowth™ technology, each plant populations will automatically feature variations for that extra-realistic look.

More information, sample imagery and videos about Carbon Scatter 2 are available at www.carbonscatter.com

Pricing and Availability

Carbon Scatter 2 is available in English for Windows XP, Vista and 7 (32 and 64 bit), and on Mac OSX 10.5+ (Mac Intel only, 32 and 64 bit). One license of Carbon Scatter can be used with all compatible applications and renderers installed on the end user’s system.

Pricing:

Carbon Scatter 2 retails for $295 bundled with the Carbon Botanica plugin, and $195 without. The Carbon Botanica plugin for Carbon Scatter 2 retails for $145 if purchased separately.

Compatible applications and renderers:

  • Carbon Scatter 2 for 3ds Max works with MentalRay and V-Ray renderers (3ds Max 2009 to 2013).

* R14 on windows only. Support for C4D R14 on MacOS should be available early 2013.

Special Offer:

Until January 31, 2013, the upgrade from the previous version of Carbon Scatter is free for all registered users. Users who upgrade to Carbon Scatter 2 may also get the Carbon Botanica plugin for a reduced $99 only.

E-on software expects to release the free Carbon Scatter 2 Trial version early in 2013.

E-on Software Ships Vue 11 xStream and Vue 11 Infinite

VUE 11 FOR 3D ARTISTS AND 3D ENTHUSIASTS SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE MID NOVEMBER

November 05, 2012. Beaverton, Oregon: e-on software, the leader in 3D Digital Nature technologies, today announced the immediate availability of Vue 11 xStream and Vue 11 Infinite, its newest Digital Nature solutions for CG Professionals.

In order to ensure a smooth transition, and to avoid order processing congestion, e-on software will be releasing the other products in the Vue 11 product line – Pioneer & Theme-packs, Frontier, Esprit, Studio and Complete – mid November 2012.

Vue 11 xStream – The Integrated Solution:

Vue xStream, e-on’s flagship solution, offers CG professionals the premiere solution for creating exceptionally rich and realistic Digital Nature environments, fully immersed within Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, and Softimage, Maxon Cinema 4D or Newtek LightWave. All Vue tools are fully integrated in the host application as menus and toolbars and directly accessible from within the host interface, providing immediate access to the most advanced 3D environment creation technologies.

Vue 11 Infinite – The Standalone Solution:

Vue Infinite offers CG professionals the premiere solution for creating exceptionally rich and realistic Digital Nature environments in a stand-alone package. Vue 10 Infinite is the ideal tool for multimedia and entertainment professionals, architects and graphics designers.

New features of Vue 11

Key features of Vue 11 include faster rendering, illumination caching, terrain and EcoPainter improvements, 360° population, interactive EcoSystem population, as well as EcoParticles, e-on software's revolutionary approach to particles:

With EcoParticles, users can do all the standard stuff that particles are good at, but they can also do a lot more. Rather than creating simple emitters, and having particles grow out of them, e-on software designed a new way of handling particles that is specifically well suited for Digital Nature.

The Vue 11 Particle system is a direct extension of the production proven EcoSystem™ technology that is a key player in Vue’s success for the film, television, architecture, game, science, educational and entertainment industries.

Here is a shortlist of some of the important new features included in Release 11 of Vue:

  • EcoParticles: This new technology is ideal for the creation of animated rain, snow, waterfalls, explosions, fire, smoke, tornadoes, falling leaves, swarm of insects and more. Any object can be set as a particle source (emitter).
  • EcoParticles as EcoSystems: EcoParticles are added to any material like a regular EcoSystem material layer. But with EcoParticles, users get in depth control over the way the particles will evolve over time. Users can define the speed, direction, collision properties and duration of life of the particles, as well as subject them to external influences. On top of these new physical settings, all of the classic EcoSystem configuration parameters are used for particle instance population.
  • EcoParticles Effectors: Effectors are special objects that will influence the EcoParticles in the scene. Effects like tornadoes, jittering, attraction, etc. are easily created this way.
  • Automatic Weather Effects - Rain and Snow: These new atmospheric effects enable artists to create anything from gentle spring rain to a tropical storm, a gentle falling snow to a blizzard, with just a few simple clicks. The heaviness, shape, drop size, speed and falling angle of the precipitation is user controllable. Motion blur can be added if desired too. Weather Effects are available for all types of atmospheres.
  • EcoPainter Improvements: The EcoSystem Painter is completely redesigned to allow even more control and flexibility. Users can now create their own brushes using a combination of effectors. For instance, brushes that will resize and align instances at the same time. There are a number of new brush effects to boot, including the ability to lean or rotate instances, raise or lower them, move them around, etc.
  • Customizable EcoPainter Brushes: Like the brushes in the Terrain Editor, each EcoPainter brush now has its own dialog that displays all of the parameters that can be adjusted. If users want to display a specific brush parameter directly in the main EcoPainter dialog, they can do so with a click on the corresponding Publish icon. The EcoSystem Selection function is now part of the EcoPainter. This way, users can use the select function to define the instances to work with, directly in the EcoSystem Painter dialog. EcoSystem Instance Selection is now also available in xStream for 3ds Max, Cinema4D and Softimage.
  • EcoSystem Fast Population: Thanks to a special population mode, Vue can now refresh the EcoSystem population interactively, without the need of any re-population action
  • EcoSystem 360° Population: Vue can now automatically populate EcoSystems from all directions including below objects. This feature works on any kind of object from basic spheres to complex geometry such as rocks, cars, houses... and all applicable EcoSystem settings are supported.
  • Up to 30% Faster Rendering Speed*: Significant internal optimizations made to Vue 11’s rendering engine will result in dramatically accelerated rendering especially on very dense EcoSystem scenes.

E-on Software Unveils Vue 11

VUE 11 PRE RELEASE AVAILABLE FOR USERS UNDER MAINTENANCE
October 23, 2012. Beaverton, Oregon: e-on software, the leader in 3D Digital Nature technologies, today announced the formal unveiling of its upcoming Vue 11 product line - scheduled for release November, 2012.

Concurrently, the company is offering its professional users under maintenance a pre-release version of Vue 11 xStream and Infinite, the latest production-driven version of its professional solutions for the creation, animation and rendering of natural 3D environments.

  • Faster Rendering Speed: Significant internal optimizations made to Vue 11’s rendering engine will result in dramatically accelerated rendering especially on very dense EcoSystem scenes.
  • Illumination Caching: This technology lets the user re-use GI information over the course of an entire animation thus eliminating the need to re-render the GI pre-pass for every frame. This will dramatically reduce the rendering times of Architectural animations, for instance.
  • Many other improvements such as Shared Material layers, Nitrous accelerated graphics core support in 3ds Max, support for latest releases of the Autodesk 2013 products and Cinema4D R14, and more...
A complete and detailed list of features will be made available at the time of final release.

Immersive Media - Experience Designs In Real-Time 3D

Immersive Media is a next generation medium that extends traditional visualization and animation capabilities into the realm of "interactive experiences".

Instead of canned graphics and animations, the client becomes part of the action by navigating and interacting with models and scene elements.

With high fidelity features such as accurate natural lighting, real-time reflections, soft shadows and motion blur, designs are brought to life with vivid realism and breathtaking artistry.

Digital Life and Nature - Enrich Designs with Natural Elements

Digital Nature allows designs to be placed in a "natural context" surrounded by landscape elements (e.g. skies, terrains, vegetation, and water) and objects/characters (e.g. cars, humans, and animals). Fully animated with natural motions and behaviors, Digital Nature delivers a more inviting and engaging user experience while adding clarity and context for a design's "look and feel".

The new LumenRT 3 Content Pack ships with hundreds of pre-optimized content such as animated vegetation, natural motion characters and animals, high-fidelity objects, 100+ materials (wood, metal, water, reflective, refractive, luminous...), backgrounds and a lot more.

3D For Everyone – Collaboration Made Easy

Architectural rendering is no longer exclusive to CG specialists who master the black art of complex rendering systems.

LumenRT 3 allows Architects, Designers and Engineers to author their designs into lifelike immersive media (LiveCubes™), directly from their CAD systems through One-click processing. This media can be shared with anyone, without any special viewing software or CG graphics skills, for both Mac and Windows platforms.

What's new in LumenRT 3

  • Natural elements (trees blowing in the breeze, sitting-walking-talking characters, shiny cars, animals, etc)
  • Faster processing (high-quality indirect lighting is generated up to 10 times faster!)
  • Super-simple operation and navigation with added Fly-Thru mode and Real-time enhancements
  • One-click instant previewing

Next Generation Features

Among other significant advances, this new release introduces a number of major enhancements such as spline and road tools, a new rock technology, streamlined terrain editing, a physical water shading engine along with significant improvements in overall rendering performance and artistic control.

Capitalizing on breakthrough technologies introduced in previous versions, Vue 10 adds a number of new and extended features such as:

  • Spline and Road Tools: Vue 10 includes a comprehensive spline toolkit that can be used for EcoSystems, terrain effects, building roads or creating objects. An automatic path-finding algorithm can also be used to build realistic roads at the surface of terrains. Watch the new spline tools in action!
  • Dynamic Rocks: Vue 10 features a library of dynamic rock templates that can be used to instantly create single rocks, groups of rocks, or use them in EcoSystems. Each time the user creates a rock from a template, a new and unique variation will be generated.
  • Physical Transparency and Water Shaders: Physical transparency adds absorption and scattering parameters to allow for realistic light absorption in glass or in a body of water. Ocean waves now accurately affect incident light to produce realistic underwater caustics.
  • Render Comparison: The new render display dialog now lets the user stack and compare previous renders. Users can overlay and compare 2 renders (including multi-pass layers) and use HDR difference tools for in depth analysis. Lightweight render clones can be created to test various postprocessing effects, without altering the original render.
  • EcoSystem Phase and Lean-out Control: Vue 10 lets the user individually control the phase (animation offset) of animated elements inside EcoSystem populations for creating more natural animations. Phase is totally user-controllable on a per instance basis, using the function graph. Watch EcoSystem Phasing in action! EcoSystem Lean-out Control lets the user define how the EcoSystem instances lean out towards zones of lower density.
  • Terrain Editing Improvements: Users can now precisely preview the active zones when painting with a brush that has Environment Constraints applied. Watch this feature in action! A new Custom 3D terrain brush is added to the brush collection. Mask rotation can also be enabled/disabled when painting in the terrain editor. Material painting in the terrain editor is markedly improved. A new Strata3D node is added for the creation of realistic canyon walls and stratified rock formations. And much more!
  • Edge-based Anti-Aliasing: A new edge-based anti-aliasing algorithm is added to complement the previous color-based anti-aliasing strategy. Both AA settings can be configured independently.
  • Improved Depth of Field and Motion Blur.
  • Up to 30% Faster Rendering Speed*: Significant internal optimizations made to Vue 10’s rendering engine will result in dramatically accelerated rendering.
  • And much more: new "Main View Defined" Aspect Ratio, Multiple Camera Aspect Ratio Variation, Improved Render Area, Texture Projection Node, Mixed Materials Alpha Channel, Collada Morph Targets...
  • Plus all the new features introduced in Vue 9.5 such as GPU Anti-Aliasing, FastHybrid Depth of Field, Atmosphere Relighting, Localized Cloud Layers, Advanced Cloud Control, Interactive Texture Placement, Custom Star Maps and more.
  • More details on the new features are available on the e-on software website, at:
    www.e-onsoftware.com/infinite and www.e-onsoftware.com/xstream
